Will the model do topless, nude, "legs open".. that sorta thing?

The model will pose up to and including UK Men's Magazine.

What does this mean? Well, pay attention new recruit - here's a quick guide to the terms generally used in the glamour photography business:

FASHION/PORTRAIT

Fashion photography is supposed to be all about the clothes or the product that you're advertising. We're not fashion photographers, we're glamour photographers. We don't do fashion.

GLAMOUR

Glamour is a misleading term because whilst we would use it to describe a girl in a swim suit, or her underwear, when talking about how much to pay a girl, it's also the term used to describe any kind of sexy, erotic photography as a whole.

TOPLESS

Would you believe, topless. Think page 3.

 (ARTISTIC) NUDE

Right, now, pay attention. A lot of people get very confused about the difference between nude and "Men's Magazine".

Nude is, as the name suggests, no clothes ! However, sometimes it's called "tasteful nude" or "artistic nude" which I think is useful because it's very much, "no-knickers, but so what".

Take for instance Francesca to the left; she's clearly naked, and if you look very hard (and trust me, some visitors to this site will do just that) there's definitely a little tuft pubic hair down there. However, that's all you can see; just a little fluff.

This is the sort of picture you might find in Playboy, maybe even FHM etc. but it's NOT to be confused with traditional top-shelf magazines. See next category.

(UK) MEN'S MAGAZINE

Welcome to the world of the top shelf men's magazine. If "nude" is "no-knickers, but so what", Men's Magazine is far less "so-what" and much, much more "look at what I've got !"

Take Jaffa here, clearly enjoying her shower and oh look - is that a vagina I can see? Well, yes. Yes it is.

This is the kind of work we, and the models, do day in day out. In fact we're so immune to seeing ladies naked that generally we're shocked when other people are shocked. It's only a vagina! It won't kill you!

However, if you're not comfortable with taking these kinds of pictures (or you want to be able to show your wife, girlfriend, whoever, the pictures you took, without having to censor them first) the model will very happy to stop at nude or topless, just let us know and we'll save you the embarrassment.

AMERICAN (or US MAGAZINE)

So what it is about American Men's Magazines that differs to ours here in the UK? Well, truth is, these days, not a lot. But back in the "old days" American magazines went a little further than a girl with her legs parted.

Basically "American" means "parted labia", or "held open" shots. You'll also hear this described as "pink".

We don't go this far in our Photographer Shoots.

CONTINENTAL MAGAZINE

Without putting too fine a point on it we're talking about fairly explicit "solo masturbation" here - either genuine or "faked". "Continental" modelling takes glamour about as far as you can go without stepping across that line into the world of "porn". Some would say we've already entered it.

We don't go this far in our Photographer Shoots.

Will the model do any "extras" (nudge nudge wink wink)?

No.

Please see the terms and conditions for details on this, and other forms of unacceptable behaviour

Can I shoot my wife or girlfriend (instead of, or as well, as a model)?

Interesting question!

"as well as" - no. Sorry about that.

"instead of" - yes. And in fact as we don't need to source and pay for the model we're happy to pass on those savings as a 50% discount. We do however have some very strict caveats:

  • All other terms of the shoot remain the same (please click here for the terms and conditions)
  • We can't guarantee that your wife or girlfriend will actually be able to model! Modelling isn't just about standing in front of the camera and taking your clothes off, there is actually much more to it than that.
  • Bear in mind that we're now teaching your wife/girlfriend to model, as well as you to take pictures of her. Progress might be a little slower.
  • The model must actually be your wife, girlfriend, or friend. Basically - you need to know each other! Please don't go hiring a professional model (or the stripper from the local lap dancing club) in an effort to save a few quid - that rarely works out well.
  • The model must be female. We haven't got a problem photographing men, we just haven't got as much experience. And yes, it's different.
  • The model needs to bring her own clothes. We'll give you a list of suggested items.
  • You're responsible for getting her to the shoot. If your model fails to show on the day, or is late, your fee is not refundable.
  • Everybody realises that we will see your model naked. Sorry, we don't do tuition with our eyes closed.

Why is it so darn cheap/expensive?

Glamour models don't come cheap - and finding good, reliable glamour models is a challenge in itself (as any photographer will tell you).

That said, we still believe you're getting a fantastic deal. There are many many photography courses out there which will tell you about lighting, and f-stops, and shutter speeds, and lenses, and all that good stuff - very very few will actually show you what to do once you have the camera in your hands, and there's a semi-naked woman standing in front of you waiting for you to tell her what to do next. That's the real "work" of being a glamour photographer. It's the difference between learning to drive a car, and going on that picturesque road trip through the scottish highlands; they don't cover the latter at driving school.

Here's what you get:

A day to suit you!
Weekends or weekdays - whatever's more convenient.

Your choice of Professional Glamour Model
We have a growing list of professional models that we work with to make sure your Photographer Day is a success. All you have to do is tell us who you'd like to see more of.

Glamour Photography advice & tuition!
We'll answer all Your questions about working with models and selling pictures from our experience as published glamour photographers

A copy of all your photos
We put all the photos you take on a disc, for you to take away, that same day.

A signed release from the model
The model will sign a release form giving you legal permission to use the photos, as well as a copy of her ID so that you can sell the images if you so wish.

A free Online Portfolio!
Your very own corner of the web, and a listing on our sister site nomorehiding.com - absolutely free.

By the end of the day any nerves you may have had about working with beautiful naked women will have completely evaporated. You'll be able to leave our place with the skills you need to be able to do it again, along with a set of photographs you took, that are legally yours to use.

How and when do I pay?

Payment can be made credit/debit card (or paypal).

A small deposit of £100 (non-refundable) secures your booking, and the remainder of the fee is due exactly two weeks before the appointment.

Please read the terms and conditions for more information on payment.

Top

What if I need to cancel?

Things happen. We understand that. That's why if you need to cancel we're happy to refund everything (apart from the deposit of £100) so long as you give us a week's notice.

Of course, rather than cancel your shoot we'd prefer to postpone it, or pick a date that's more convenient. So long as you tell us before your original shoot (even 1 day before) we'd be happy to do this for you and you won't lose any money.

Please read the terms and conditions for more information on cancellations.

Can I bring all my mates to the shoot?

No.

The shoot is for you, and you only. If you turn up with anyone else the shoot won't go ahead and you won't be eligible for any refund.
Please see the terms and conditions.

What is Glamour Photography?

This may not be the text book definition, but it's the nomohi-definition:

Glamour is photographic imagery of an erotic or suggestive nature, usually of women.

A bit of history for you..

In the " old days" (I'm talking 1970's - really old) the cliché Glamour photograph was a girl dressed in stockings and suspenders, sitting at a dressing table, shot in soft focus. It was the reserve of top shelf magazines, Sun Page 3 and girlie calendars sponsored by tyre manufacturers.

In the early 1980s the world went bonkers and girlie calendars were frowned on. Sun Page 3 came under heavy fire, and a lady called Mary Whitehouse called for any man showing an interest in naked ladies to be burned at the stake.

Then along came FHM, and other "lads mags". Suddenly it was ok to look at naked or near-naked ladies. Even on the bus. Every TV starlet wanted to appear on the front cover in her undies. Life was good again.

Now, the internet, along with the "lad's mags", seems to have created a stronger demand for pictures of gorgeous girls. What's more, the modern lady is much more likely to want to be in the pictures, rather than protesting about them.

What makes a good Glamour Photographer?

Let's start a list:-

  • The ability to find good models (harder than you think)
  • Lots of photo ideas
  • Access to a great photoset (easier than you think)
  • The ability to give direction
  • The ability to spot something that will later ruin the photo (a washing label in the girl's knickers, your own reflection in a mirror or window, something rubbish in the background...)
  • The complete absence of any kind of sleaziness even when, ESPECIALLY WHEN, she's naked and the pictures you're taking are hotter than a hot thing
  • A professional attitude at all times
  • The ability to put the model at ease and to elicit a smile even when, especially when, she's nervous, tired, grumpy, hungover, or a mixture of those things
  • The patience of a saint (when the models don't turn up, turn up late, or turn up hung over)
  • A working understanding of your camera
  • An understanding of lighting

How much can I earn as a Glamour Photographer?

The question really isn't "how much can I earn", but more "is it possible", to which the answer is - yes, maybe.

There are numerous different ways to make money as a glamour photographer and numerous places - markets - to sell your work, but they change on a frequent basis. Some markets will pay you mere cents (yes, pennies - but in US dollars!!) for your photos, others will pay you a little more. Every now and then someone might come along and pay you a lot. These events tend to happen when the planets are perfectly aligned, it's a full moon, and there's a "z" in the month.

The truth is finding someone to buy your work is at least half the job of being a professional photographer and it's as much a skill as mastering your camera or getting the lighting just right, but it can be done, and we'll point you in the right direction.

Who's behind nomohi?

That would be me. Peter the photographer.

I started nomohi almost ten years ago, and I'm still doing it along with an assistant.

What does nomohi mean?

nomohi is made up of the first two letters of each word from the phrase "no more hiding". We pronounce it - NO,M'HI

Why "no more hiding"? Before nomohi I had a pretty normal 9-5 job, doing something that didn't really interest me any more. I worked in a bank. Like most people I just figured that that's what work is about - not really enjoying yourself. But when I finally made the decision to turn my hobby into my life I felt a huge sense of relief. Like I was finally doing something genuine, something that I enjoyed. It was as if the real me had been hiding, all those years, behind his desk, at the bank.

Pretty heavy stuff for a man that produces some very lighthearted images.

What sort of work do you specialise in?

We describe our work as "photos that most guys would like to take of their girlfriends".

So, whilst we take striking images, our images still feature "real" girls, in "real" settings. We're not keen on big empty studios or paper back drops or wind machines or anything that doesn't look natural. And that goes for the girls we work with too. We want our models to look alive, and fun, and flirty, and sizzling hot.. we're not into mean and moody, airbrushed and unobtainable. We leave "art" for the artists.

In other words, our images fill the pages of the top shelf magazines you'll find in most newsagents (Fiesta, Escort, Razzle... you get the idea), and various websites across the world, and this is a very good thing because that's where the paid work is. And whilst we'd love to shoot for posh calendars, or page three, we're smart enough to realise there just isn't enough of a demand for that kind of photography.
